Shocks can be a powerful catalyst for innovation. It is difficult to imagine a bigger shock to education than the COVID-19 pandemic. Billions have been unable to access classrooms or any schooling for extended periods of time. The year 2021 saw a slew of measures being adopted for the implementation of the NEP, with differing results at the early and higher education levels. Will NEP lead to long-expected reforms in education? How can we reinvent relationships between students, teachers and parents for better learning outcomes? What impact can education reform have on societies on a larger scale? What are the opportunities for civil society actors and other institutions to contribute to education reform? The session will delve on the case studies where NEP has already been implemented and will take lessons from the doers.

The recent pandemic has allowed for a proliferation of online programs and new edtech that has redefined the modern learning experience. Over the next decade, we could continue to see significant transformations within the education sector, but this requires a cohesive ecosystem that includes well-designed policies, funding to support access to new innovation, and above all else, effective models of partnership building between schools and technology providers. This session will explore how we can build multi-level ecosystems capable of leveraging broad networks of expertise that empower all education stakeholders to be drivers of innovation.

  • 03:30 PM - 04:30 PM

This summit would like to celebrate and support the work of outstanding education initiatives. From fostering social and emotional learning to improving teachers' training and basic literacy outcomes across the Country, this session will bring unsung innovators who has delivered important contributions to education through innovative solutions. This session is a great opportunity to hear from three of the panelists, as they exchange ideas and explore innovative, practiced approaches to current matters both in and outside of the classroom.

India is emerging as a global and international education hub, making it an attractive destination for students who wish to study abroad. The world’s second fastest growing economy offers affordable international education with great value for money. The industry is also witnessing accelerated growth owing to multiple factors such as increase in the number of international students, increasing demand for skilled workforce, etc. This session will focus on the theme of collaboration. The session will set the agenda for the future and ensure the higher education sector is best placed to respond to global challenges by expanding on these themes: • Increasing cross-border partnerships • Global Partnership in research initiatives

  • 11:30 AM - 01:00 PM

The higher education sector in India is the largest in the world in terms of number of institutions and has a complex tiered structure comprising of university, college and stand-alone institutions. The regulatory framework of this sector is also multilayered. To meet the needs of a 21st century higher education ecosystem, there is a felt need to develop a culture of innovation and self-regulation, as a response to changes in the learning environment and changing student expectations. With this objective, the NEP2020 proposes to move away from ‘one size fits all’ approach of regulation and develop outcome- based accreditation and rating framework with regulations at arm’s length in order to facilitate autonomous institutions. The session will aim to discuss the implementation strategies, adopting best practices, to address the sectoral challenges.

To emerge as a Knowledge Economy, education and research must remain India’s top priority. In India, publicly funded research is concentrated in specialized research institutes under different government departments. India’s government has published ambitious aims to increase funding for research, internationalisation and industry partnerships. Key to this are structural reforms and the creation of a National Research Foundation. This panel will ask whether the greater institutional autonomy intended by the National Education Policy will improve research performance, or whether new regulatory bodies will result in excessive control and declining standards. What are the most important steps that Indian policymakers, university leaders and funders can take this year to enable Indian research to flourish?

  • 03:30 PM - 04:30 PM

The digitalization of industries and services goes hand in hand with a deep evolution of the labor market. The once-golden status of the 9-to-5 employee has lost much of its luster. The entrepreneur’s status is now sought after, associated with freedom and—potential—high gains. The rise of the creator economy further compounds this shift towards self-employment. Seen from the education field, this transformation in the labor market opens wide new perspectives: Is entrepreneurship education becoming a “must”? How do we help students shift from employees to entrepreneurs? What about developing the skills for this transition?
