Running Miles for Dyslexia With Jared Blank
In recognition of LD/ADHD Awareness Month, Springer School and Center welcomes Jared Blank on September 29th to kick off their month-long LD and ADHD information campaign. Now a successful world marathon athlete, Jared was diagnosed with dyslexia at age five. Despite this diagnosis, he has numerous life achievements and continues to exceed expectations attributed to those who experience learning differences.
Grateful for the support he was given as a child, his focus in adulthood turned to raising awareness and supporting organizations that help children with dyslexia achieve literacy. Running the World Marathon Challenge in 2018, Blank raised $50,000 for the International Dyslexia Foundation (IDA) and partners with the Oregon IDA branch to continue spreading dyslexia awareness. During his speaking event, Blank will discuss the ways he grew as a student and athlete and how those journeys paralleled. Through the support of specialized tutoring and his family, he beat the odds and earned two master's degrees and wrote a book titled Running the Distance, in which he discusses running the marathon and explains how he turned challenges into opportunities.
His story has been called "raw, heartfelt and poignant." Blank continues to travel to inspire and advocate for children who struggle as he did. Blank is appearing at Springer's Hyde Park campus as a guest of their annual Distinguished Speaker Series, which brings nationally recognized professionals to share their knowledge and perspectives with the Greater Cincinnati region. Registration is now open. Don't miss your chance to hear this inspirational speaking engagement, Running Miles for Dyslexia with Jared Blank.
